Concussion NeuroFrequency Lab Coaching
-
Many concussion and whiplash patients in rural or remote areas lack access to specialized neurological rehab.
-
Delays in care lead to persistent symptoms, chronic impairment, and escalating costs.
-
Traditional concussion care often lacks neurophysiological assessment, qEEG-based or brainwave–informed care is infrequently used.
-
Insurance and legal stakeholders face long-term costs: ongoing disability, multiple visits, and lack of objective metrics without proper diagnosis, assessment and treatment in a timely manner. This program corrects the current limitations in concussion rehabilitation.

Initial Consultation
-
Secure video consultation via Doxy. Link to Dr. Jason Mazzarella's Waiting Room
-
Structured neurological + symptom interview based on AMA concussion / whiplash-traumatology criteria.
-
Our initial interview will include a history, examination and specific questioning related to concussion sub-types in order to ensure the most specific patient centered treatment protocol is developed. Link to Research.
-
-
Functional screening: vestibular, ocular-motor, autonomic, cognitive.
-
-
Symptom-to-Brainwave Correlation
-
Use of targeted questions to infer brainwave dysregulation patterns (e.g., delta, theta, alpha) based on symptom clusters.
-
Risk stratification using clinical experience and neurofunctional frameworks.

-
Diagnostic Decision Support
-
qEEG Assessment.
-
The patient will be shipped a qEEG device to use during the Doxy, virtual appointment. This will record live brain wave activity which Dr. Mazzarella will use to develop a Neurofeedback rehabilitation program from.

Understanding Mechanism & Rationale for Concussion Therapy at home after a motor vehicle accident.
This treatment also applies to slip and falls and sports injuries.
This virtual concussion therapy program provides education, guided home exercises, and neurosensory support for individuals recovering from concussion. Patients receive structured online modules that include vestibular rehabilitation videos, gaze stabilization training, balance exercises, autonomic regulation strategies, and guided neuroregulation sessions using safe sound-frequency and light-based techniques inspired by cutting edge HIRREM research. These self-directed components are designed to supplement each patient’s recovery with clear demonstrations, home practice plans, and step-by-step progressions.
In addition to the online content, patients attend live virtual appointments for assessment, exercise correction, symptom monitoring, and individualized progression. These virtual sessions provide professional oversight; however, they are not a substitute for in-person medical evaluation or hands-on care. In-office concussion assessment and rehabilitation remain the gold standard, virtual care is offered as an adjunct for patients who cannot attend in person or who require additional support between visits. This program does not diagnose or cure concussion but provides structured guidance to complement clinical care within the patient’s existing healthcare plan.
Concussion often involves dysregulation of neural networks, autonomic dysregulation, hyperarousal, and disrupted brain oscillations/rhythms. This program is designed improve function and help restore more optimal oscillatory patterns, thereby improving symptom burden.
Vestibular dysfunction is also common after concussion; combining vestibular rehabilitation (which targets sensory integration, balance, gaze stability) with a neuromodulatory (frequency-based) intervention, out goal is to provide tools that can be used to help improve brain dysregulation.
How you get hurt in a car accident, even at LOW SPEED!
Example Low Speed Collision: Cervical Spine Injury
Low Speed Collision: By Understanding how an occupant reacts in a motor vehicle collision, a specific treatment plan can be developed.
Specifically related to concussion: Please see how the occupants spine "stretched" beyond its normal Physiological Range of Motion.
This trauma to the cervical spine results in Vestibular Dysfunction.
This leads to a Cervicocephalic Syndrome in Whiplash: Pathophysiology includes concussion, neurologic dysfunction, pain and altered biomechanics.
-
This program is designed to address vestibular and concussion disorders associated with motor vehicle accident Cervicocephalic Syndrome Injuries.

Cervicocephalic Syndrome Injuries
-
Cervicocephalic syndrome (CCS)—also referred to as cervicocephalic kinesthetic syndrome—is a cluster of symptoms including dizziness, imbalance, altered head perception, visual disturbances, and headaches. It is commonly associated with cervical spine trauma, particularly whiplash-associated disorders (WAD), where proprioceptive dysfunction from the cervical spine interacts with vestibular and cerebellar systems
Common Symptoms
1. Dizziness / Disequilibrium
-
Feeling unsteady or off-balance
-
“Floating,” “rocking,” or “drunk” sensation
-
Worse with head movement or rapid changes in gaze
2. Cervicogenic Headache
-
Unilateral (one side) or bilateral (both sides)
-
Starts in upper neck/suboccipital (back of head) region
-
Can radiate to temples, forehead, or behind eyes
3. Visual Disturbances
-
Blurry vision
-
Difficulty focusing or tracking objects
-
Increased symptoms when reading
-
Sensitivity to movement in the visual field (visual vertigo) - motion sickness
4. Neck Pain and Stiffness
-
Deep aching pain in the cervical (neck) region
-
Myofascial trigger points in SCM, suboccipital muscles, levator scapulae, upper trapezius (neck muscles)
-
Restricted ROM, especially rotation
5. Proprioceptive Dysfunction
-
Poor head-neck awareness (cant tell were you are in space)
-
Difficulty repositioning head to neutral
-
“Head feels heavy,” “neck feels disconnected”
-
Abnormal joint-position error (JPE) tests
6. Postural Control Problems
-
Increased sway on Romberg, foam surface, or eyes-closed balance tests
-
Difficulty stabilizing during walking - feel unsteady
-
Symptoms triggered by uneven surfaces
7. Cognitive & Sensory Symptoms
-
Difficulty concentrating
-
Mental fatigue
-
Motion sensitivity
-
Overstimulation in busy environments
8. Autonomic Symptoms
-
Nausea
-
Cold sweats
-
Palpitations or anxiety associated with head/neck motion
-
Occasional tinnitus or ear fullness
9. Upper Cervical Joint Dysfunction Symptoms
-
Suboccipital tightness
-
C1-C2 rotation irritation
-
Occasional facial pain or jaw discomfort
