Understanding Whiplash

Every visit blends manual care with movement prescriptions and load management appropriate to your condition and sport.

Whiplash is more than just a “neck sprain” or "soft tissue injury."  It’s a neurological injury, not a simple soft tissue strain. Rapid acceleration–deceleration forces during motor vehicle accidents can cause:

  • Microdamage to the brainstem and spinal cord

  • Altered cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics

  • Disc and ligament strain

  • Disturbed proprioception and balance

This explains why whiplash often leads to chronic headaches, dizziness, brain fog, fatigue, and long-term neck pain if not properly addressed.

Why Choose Our Clinic?

We are recognized as a leading authority in whiplash care. Unlike standard care that only addresses muscle strain, our approach targets the neurological, musculoskeletal, and pain pathways responsible for ongoing symptoms.

We use evidence-based protocols drawn from:

  • Chiropractic Neuro-Rehabilitation (spinal adjustments, Cox flexion-distraction, proprioceptive training)

  • Physiotherapy (active rehabilitation, soft tissue therapy, laser, shockwave, ultrasound, exercise programming)

  • Acupuncture & Electroacupuncture (restoring nerve signaling, reducing pain, promoting blood flow and healing)

  • Advanced Pain Management Modalities (PEMF, TENS, interferential current, pulsed radiofrequency)

Treatment

  • Active Care Approach.

  • Multidisciplinary Care each visit by either Dr. Jason Mazzarella or Dr. Katherine Marek ONLY, no associates or assistance like many facilities.

What to Expect on Each Visit

Chiropractic & Manual Therapy

  • Spinal manipulation / mobilization (cervical, thoracic, lumbar)

  • Cox Flexion-Distraction for cervical and lumbar disc decompression

  • Thompson / Drop Table technique

  • Activator instrument-assisted adjustments

  • Joint mobilization (facet, costovertebral, TMJ)

  • Soft tissue release (Nemo receptor, myofascial, trigger point therapy)

Physiotherapy-Based Care

  • Therapeutic exercise prescription (ROM, stabilization, posture correction)

  • Neuromuscular re-education (cervical proprioception, gaze stability, balance training)

  • Manual stretching (cervical, shoulder girdle, thoracic outlet)

  • Cervical traction (manual or mechanical)

  • Electrotherapy modalities:

    • TENS for pain control

    • IFC (interferential current) for muscle spasm & circulation

    • Ultrasound therapy for tissue healing

    • Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) for deep stabilizers (e.g., multifidus)

  • Heat / cold therapy (pain & inflammation control)

Acupuncture

  • Traditional acupuncture for meridian-based pain relief & circulation

  • Electro-acupuncture (EA): targeted neuromodulation and spasm reduction

  • Trigger point dry needling for myofascial pain release

  • Scalp acupuncture (cerebellar/neurological rehab support)

Pain Management & Supportive Modalities

  • Pulsed Radiofrequency (PRF) neuromodulation (if in clinic)

  • Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) for healing & inflammation reduction

  • Shockwave therapy (if available) for chronic muscular adhesions

  • Kinesiology taping (stabilization & proprioceptive input)

  • Postural correction devices (biofeedback or bracing short-term if needed)

Patient Education & Lifestyle Integration

  • Ergonomic counseling (workstation, driving, sleep posture)

  • Graded activity return planning (work, sport, daily living)

  • Breathing, relaxation & HPA axis stress management (chronic pain prevention)

  • Home exercise program tailored to stage of recovery

Research: Whiplash DOES NOT Self Resolve! It is NOT a Soft Tissue Injury!

If your Lawyer, Treatment Provider and/or Insurer Does NOT know this, you may become part of the 55% that NEVER Recover.

Your Treatment Team Matters!  More than your Insurers PPN recommendation, more than your lawyers recommendation.  Trust the doctors who Universities, Professional Associations and World Congresses have trusted to teach All Doctors how to assess, diagnosis and treat these serious condition.

“Whiplash injuries do not reliably self-resolve. Research shows that without proper treatment, patients are at high risk of developing chronic pain, headaches, dizziness, and long-term disability. In fact, long-term studies following patients for over 30 years reveal that 55% continue to suffer from persistent pain and functional limitations — underscoring the need for early, specialized care to prevent adverse outcomes.”
